The TSBM Research Impact Program

The Translational Science Benefits Model (TSBM) helps researchers and their teams plan for, track, and demonstrate the real-world benefits of their work across clinical, community, economic, and policy domains.

The TSBM Research Impact Program supports trainees in applying the model and the Translating for Impact Toolkit to:

  • Plan for impact from the start
  • Track progress using measurable benefits
  • Demonstrate results through clear, evidence-based impact stories

100+ participants trained since 2022
across WashU and partner institutions

This training covered so many different dimensions of impact I hadn’t thought of before and pushed me to think beyond clinical impact, which was beneficial for me.

Why participate in TSBM Research Impact Training Program?

Because TSBM is designed to make your work more efficient, more intentional, and more impactful.

Through training, participants learn how to:

  • Plan projects with greater intention
  • Track outcomes using structured benefit categories
  • Clearly demonstrate the difference their work is making

This can lead to:

  • Stronger grant applications
  • More compelling reports and dissemination products
  • Improved communication with partners and stakeholders
  • Clearer, more persuasive impact narratives

While it may feel like an added step, TSBM often saves time and strengthens your work overall.

How is the TSBM Research Impact Program delivered?

TSBM training is flexible and tailored to group needs. Offerings include:

  • Interactive group sessions on TSBM and the Translating for Impact Toolkit
  • Hands-on workshops to apply tools to your own work
  • One-on-one coaching to develop dissemination products
  • Virtual consultations with TSBM experts
  • Iterative feedback to strengthen outputs over time

Training can be delivered in person or virtually, depending on cohort needs.

Is the TSBM Research Impact Program for me and my group?

The TSBM training can be used by and adapted for a variety of groups, including:

  • Individual researchers—Build TSBM into your project from planning through dissemination.
  • Research teams—Develop a shared approach to identifying and documenting benefits.
  • Training programs—Integrate TSBM into translational science and career-development curricula.
  • Institutions—Build capacity for researchers to demonstrate the real-world benefits of their work.

Why would I need training if the toolkit is already available?

While the tools in the Translating for Impact Toolkit are available for independent use, the training provides added value through:

  • Guided instruction on applying the TSBM framework
  • Real-time feedback on your materials
  • Structured support to refine impact statements and products
  • Direct access to TSBM experts
